Mini Lops are sweet, gentle rabbits with adorable chunky faces and floppy ears. They come in a huge variety of colors and make great pets for anyone over the age off 5 years old. Mini Lops have sweet dispositions and love to sit on your lap and watch tv, take a nap, or just cuddle.
Keeping Your Mini Lop Healthy
For many pet owners, over feeding is an issue. Rabbits will eat what you give them, and if you over feed, you can not only make them overweight, but this can lead to other health issues that could ultimately lead to extremely high vet bills and even death of the animal. To prevent this, feed the recommended amount of pellets to your rabbit ONCE a day. Provide fresh water, grass hays and fresh fruit and veggies (in limited amounts) as a treat.
Another issues is Malacollusion. This is when the rabbits teeth over grow. This can cause issues with eating or drinking and can cause life threatening health issues if not corrected. There are many causes of this, one being genetics others include self injury like cage pulling. To help prevent this, provide wood chew blocks to help them keep their teeth trimmed.
Tips for First-Time Mini Lop Owners
Allowing your new rabbit 3 days to adjust to his/her new surroundings is always advised. Keeping your new rabbit in a well trafficed area like a living room or family room is also advised as this will help prevent any injuries due to being startled in a quiet room.
Important Considerations Before Getting a Mini Lop
Rabbits are considered an exotic pet. This means that if they require vet care, they need a well versed vet that has seen rabbits before. Also, exotic animals = exotic vets = exotic pricing. While rabbits do not need regular vet visits, we do recommend having an exotic vet on hand just in case.
